About Me

I dread filling out the About Me section on social networks because I don't enjoy talking about myself. It all too often seems like it is nothing more than bragging. But I will put that dread aside and try to tell you a little about myself while trying not to be obnoxious.

Honestly, I am just a fan of technology. It's not my job, it's a hobby. An interest. My job consists of print layout and graphic design using the Adobe Creative Suite, but that's about as interesting as it gets.

I'm not exactly sure where my interest in technology came from, as I wasn't this interested in it 10 years ago. But then again, 10 years ago, technology wasn't as exciting. There was no iPhone, no Android, no cloud computing. Tech was... bland. But at some point in the last 10 years, there was an explosion. The iPhone debuted in 2007 and while it wasn't the first touchscreen device, it was certainly the best up to that point. And the world of technology changed forever. Maybe that's when I started paying attention.

So, about me. I'm not special, really. I have an interest in new gadgets and new technologies even if I can't afford them or completely understand them. I still want to play with them. I want to know what the new gadgets can do, and what the new tech is capable of. I have very little formal training when it comes to software. I am pretty capable with programs such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. I know a little bit of HTML... not enough to build a site from scratch, but enough to get into trouble. Most of what I know is self-taught. I taught myself Photoshop well before I took a class for it, which turned out to be a waste of money because I already knew what was being taught, and then some. If I want to know what something does, or how something works, I go find an answer.

And I always want to know about the new gadgets entering the market. Which is why many of my family, friends and coworkers come to me before buying a phone or tablet. I can give them pros and cons of a number of different devices that they are considering buying.

See, this feels like gloating to me. So I will end and say I'm just a normal guy with interest in tech. That's it. If you have a question, just ask. If I can, I'll give you an answer, but I'm also not scared to say "I don't know."
