And honestly, who doesn't? Technology has given us the ability to get our messages instantly, instead of waiting days, weeks, or even months for the Pony Express to arrive. In 15 years, we have gone from an era of heavy, expensive, and boring phones with no address book, no email, no texting, and no screen like this one:
... to phones that can do everything your home computer can do, and in some cases, do it better. And that brings me to the point of this post.
I want you to imagine getting rid of your home computer. Desktop, laptop, whatever you have. Imagine your life without it, and only having your phone. Weird isn't it? It's hard to picture yourself using your phone and its tiny screen to do everything. Filing taxes, searching for recipes, watching videos, etc. But what if you could hook your phone up to a larger screen, and add peripherals such as a mouse and keyboard? It's a bit easier to picture now, isn't it.
That alternate reality is closer than you might think! The people of over at Canonical have built a working version of Ubuntu for Android. Yes, it is Linux, and yes, most people use Windows... but just think of the possibilities! This will allow you to always have your entire home computer in your pocket! All you do is dock your phone to a monitor, and *boom* you have a full-blown computer desktop. The tech blog Engadget has an article with video of it in action, which you can read & watch right here. If you liked that and want more, they added a second video, which is here.
I can't wait for the future. The possibilities that it holds are just mind boggling. Just think, by the end of this year, you could be looking through a pair of glasses with a heads-up-display to provide you with real time information.
I mean, how can you not get excited for the things to come?
